Witches and Minions and Moldbusters? OH MY!

The Moraine Park Association for Career and Technical Education (MPACTE) held their Annual Costume Contest on all the MPTC campuses Monday, October 31st. Students and staff were encouraged to dress up and Trick or Treat to a location at each of the campuses to have their photograph taken and receive a Fair Trade Chocolate treat.

The photos were added to an online voting platform and shared through MPTC’s social media channels for students, staff and the public to choose their three favorites. With over 40 contestants, the competition was fierce, but several groups and individuals moved to the top of the list.

Global Entrepreneurship Week is a global eco system that promotes entrepreneurism by engaging, connecting, and inspiring new audiences to think about starting their own business someday.

Trick or Treat! Give Me Something Good to Eat!

In celebration of Fair Trade Month, the MPTC Fair Trade College Team and Just Fare Market held a delicious lunch time event on Tuesday, October 25 at the Fond du Lac Campus (see our photos below!). Participants enjoyed Fair Trade chocolate chip cookies made by our very own Instructor Tom Endejan and culinary students.  Just Fare Market provided Fair Trade chocolate samples, as well as a beautiful variety of Fair Trade items for shopping!  Participants also entered a drawing to win Fair Trade chocolate prizes, with the grand prize including a copy of the new book “Bitter Side of Sweet”. Veterans Day activities planned all week at Moraine Park

As Moraine Park continues its “Year of the Student Veteran” activities we have several events that are taking place during the week of Veterans Day on all three Moraine Park campuses. Each day the college will recognize a branch of the service with a flag raising, starting Monday November 7th with the raising of the Army flag. Tuesday will be a tribute to the Marines, Wednesday we will honor the Navy, Thursday the Air Force and Friday year-of-the-studenet-veteran-logothe Coast Guard. The flag will be raised NLT 8:15 a.m. each morning on all of three campuses, with veterans and the public encouraged to attended to honor each branch of the service.

In addition to the flag raisings, and service recognition, the Mobile Vet Center (MVC) will be available to assist students, staff and members of the community. The MVC is a confidential counseling area on wheels, providing a safe and private environment for veterans to talk to a licensed professional counselor. The MVC attends veteran/military related events throughout the state of Wisconsin and 65% of Vet Center staff are veterans themselves so not only are you talking to a licensed professional, you are talking to a licensed professional who has served in the United States Military.  Here is the schedule for the MVC: Continue reading

Q:  What is the definition of a satellite?

A:  Satellites help scientists study Earth and space.

Q:  What kind of information can satellites provide?

A:  Satellites looking toward Earth provide information about clouds, oceans, land and ice. They also measure gases in the atmosphere, such as ozone and carbon dioxide, and the amount of energy that Earth absorbs and emits. And satellites monitor wildfires, volcanoes and their smoke.

In honor of National Small Business Week, Moraine Park is sponsoring the Imagination Network meeting and celebrating with a social event to include a tasting of creations prepared by the students in Moraine Park’s Culinary Arts program. Try a sampling of meat, fish or poultry from potential, future small business owners from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Learn how you too can create a culinary creation in one of our community education classes.

Then enjoy a fun presentation from Kim Braatz, Careers Instructor at MPTC, about FiSH! Philosophy of customer service. Learn how to become truly connected to your work, your customers, and others by applying the four principles of Play, Make their Day, Be There, and Choose Your Attitude.
