Mary Polter knows the benefit of education and hard work. In the late 1980s, she graduated from Moraine Park Technical College’s administrative assistant program while serving in the Army Reserves. For 25 years she worked in accounts payable at two employers. But when her department was outsourced overseas, she spent nine months searching for a new job. She considered her options and accepted her former employer’s reeducation funding.
Mary took a step in a new direction with college that had helped her in the past. She returned to Moraine Park to earn an associate degree in accounting.

Perhaps a “heptad” – a group or series of seven items (or how about other equally poetic suggestions – we’re looking at you “septet” and “hebdomad”)?
But for simplicity sake, how about we just call our recent seventh-in-a-row honor very special – because it is!?
Moraine Park Technical College has proclaimed the 2016-17 academic year as the “Year of the Student Veteran” and to help better understand veterans, the college will have a series of blog entries to address various questions people may have. Much of the information was taken from the book by Michigan State University’s School of Journalism, “100 Questions & Answers about Veterans” and seems fitting with Veterans Day fresh in mind.
Part one talks about the demographics and makeup of the veteran community.

Its was organized by the Beaver Dam Student Senate, and roughly 100 different students helped at various points of the project.
