GIVE BACK: Support service members currently stationed overseas

As we approach and celebrate the holiday season, let us not forget about those who will be away from home serving their country. In order to make their time a little more enjoyable students and staff from Moraine Park’s Beaver Dam campus are conducting a “Christmas in a Shoebox” drive in order to collect items to be shipped to service members currently stationed overseas. Always Remember: Moraine Park rededicates 9/11 memorial

Father and daughter viewing 9-11 memorial

To kick off our “Year of the Student Veteran,” Moraine Park hosted a somber and moving 9/11 Re-dedication Ceremony on Friday, Sept. 9 at its Fond du lac campus.

Special guest speaker was Jessica Osenbrugge, a West Bend native who was residing in New York City on 9/11.

Osenbrugge shared powerful memories of her time in New York during the terrorist attacks, and the aftermath to follow. She also explained how she became involved with the search efforts for another Wisconsin-native, Andrea Lyn Haberman, who sadly perished in the attacks.

Here are some photos reflecting back on Moraine Park’s re-dedication ceremony:

two jets flying in the sky

It was the crack of dawn on a Tuesday and I had to jump out of bed at 4:30 a.m. to ensure that I was on the road by 5:15. Today was going to be the day that I would travel to Truax National Air Guard 115th Fighter Wing base in Madison.  It would be a rare opportunity for a civilian to board an Airforce tanker as a passenger for one of the regular refueling missions at 20,000 feet for F-16’s and F-18 fighter jets. This amazing adventure was made possible through ESGR or Employee Support of the Guard and Reserves.

Moraine Park president Bonnie Baerwald, Steve Pepper, and DeWayne Secton at softball event

We have been so pleased with the response to the Moraine Park blog, so I thought I would also contribute from my little corner of the world. Softball is a passion of mine, thus I jumped at the chance to attend the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST) event at Fond du Lac’s Lakeside Park Saturday, August 13th.  Continue reading
