Do you have what it takes to run like an Angel?

Hannah Hillesheim, Instructional Technology Specialist at Moraine Park, smiles with athlete from TEAM TRIUMPH

Although we all have a competitive spark living inside of us, some have physical limitations that prevent them from participating in athletic events. Enter the Angels of my TEAM TRIUMPH. Disabled athletes, known as Captains, become part of a team of able-athletes known as Angels. Captains provide inspiration and a sense of joy and excitement all the while being pushed by an Angel in a race using a specially designed chair. Captains and Angels share their moment of glory together when they cross the finish line as a team.

On Saturday July 22, 2017, Hannah Hillesheim, Instructional Technology Specialist at Moraine Park Technology College and Interactive Media Design program alum, participated in the Green Bay Packers 5K Run at Lambeau Field as an Angel. Continue reading

Mom, are you busy?

Written by, Beth Aubrey, Moraine Park online student (pictured on far right)

Mom, are you busy? What a silly question for me to ask! I am sure at this current moment if you look around you, there are dishes in the sink, piles of laundry that need to be folded and children that are begging for your attention. You feel pulled in every direction with their questions: What’s for supper? Can you bring me to my friend’s house? Can you help me with my homework?

You almost lose your own identity and you find it hard to find the time to squeeze in something for yourself. Continue reading

Everything you need to know about MPTC transfer opportunities

Female handing in a sheet of paper at Transfer Fair

Moraine Park recently held “Transfer Fairs” at each of its campuses. Our College has developed strong relationships with many four-year colleges/universities to help students earn a bachelor’s degree, and our Transfer Fairs provided a great opportunity for students to speak in-person with representatives from these various schools.

What’s that? You missed out on attending the Transfer Fairs but still want to learn about your options? Well, don’t you worry. We’ve got your back! Check out the many credit transfer agreements Moraine Park has to offer at the links below: Continue reading

Beware of student loan debt relief offers and credit repair “deals”

Kim DeMaa in Financial Aid

If you’re among the millions of current or former students with debt, you’ve probably been tempted to click on an ad that says, “Obama Wants to Forgive Your Student Loans!” or “Erase Default Statuses in 4 – 6 Weeks!” or some equally enticing student loan debt relief offer … available only if you click or call NOW!

Many the companies behind these offers have sophisticated marketing tactics to target unsuspecting students, borrowers, parents, military service members, and their families. In the Financial Aid Office, unfortunately I hear about these pitches a lot. My advice: Before you pay somebody to help you with your student loans, do your homework.

It’s tempting to just say: Don’t do it. Walk away. Call your loan servicer instead. But there’s more you should know. Continue reading

Attend classes via robot? Reflecting on Innovations 2016 conference highlights

Robot picture with Bruce Forciea

The following is a personal reflection of the Innovations 2016 conference by Bruce Forciea, anatomy and physiology instructor at Moraine Park Technical College:

It’s a Monday evening in Chicago and I am enjoying the wonderful lobby of the Sheraton Grand hotel after another day of the Innovations 2016 conference. The Innovations conference is a national event that showcases best practices for teaching and new ideas for community colleges. I always find conferences and public speaking a refreshing change from teaching my Anatomy and Physiology courses here at MPTC. My presentation yesterday on Audio/Video production went well and afterward I was able to take a deep breath, relax and, focus on learning. I attended a smorgasbord of presentations over the past two days covering a variety of topics. Here are some of the highlights. Continue reading
