Nursing group honors late teacher, donate to humane society

Moraine Park nursing students pose for group photo at Ozaukee Humane Society

The West Bend Student Nurses Association raised $326 as a memorial for their beloved teacher, Deb Schmitz, and donated it to the Ozaukee Humane Society as she had requested.

Deb was born November 7, 1959 in Port Washington and passed away in May 2017. For the last 17 years of her life, Deb was a dedicated Clinical Nursing Instructor at Moraine Park Technical College and impacted many students.

Sweet Summertime! Students complete MPTC nursing assistant boot camp

Eight more students recently successfully completed Moraine Park Technical College’s Nursing Assistant (CNA) boot camp–a rigorous three-week, 120 hour, 3 credit, learning experience. Students spent their clinical hours training at Fond du Lac Lutheran Home.

Do you have what it takes to run like an Angel?

Although we all have a competitive spark living inside of us, some have physical limitations that prevent them from participating in athletic events. Enter the Angels of my TEAM TRIUMPH. Disabled athletes, known as Captains, become part of a team of able-athletes known as Angels. Captains provide inspiration and a sense of joy and excitement all the while being pushed by an Angel in a race using a specially designed chair. Captains and Angels share their moment of glory together when they cross the finish line as a team.

On Saturday July 22, 2017, Hannah Hillesheim, Instructional Technology Specialist at Moraine Park Technology College and Interactive Media Design program alum, participated in the Green Bay Packers 5K Run at Lambeau Field as an Angel.

Moraine Park welcomes Laubenstein to District Board

Cynthia Laubenstein signs paperwork to officially become part of Moraine Park district board

Cynthia Laubenstein of Fond du Lac was sworn in July 10 as the newest member of the Moraine Park Technical College District Board.

She will serve as an additional member representative, with a term expiring in June 2020.

Laubenstein is a Mayville High School graduate and raised her sons on a farm in Leroy, Wis., and currently serves as the Bank of Oakfield’s assistant vice president and administration officer. She has worked at the bank for the past 23 years, and is the former treasurer for the Town of Leroy. Laubenstein served in that role from 2001 to 2007.

Her appointment to Moraine Park’s District Board was a special moment, according to Laubenstein.

Next time you see a Matthew or Sara in our hallways, just know that you’re likely standing in the company of a pretty intelligent, hard-working individual.

In the hundreds of names that appeared in our Moraine Park’s 2017 Spring Dean’s List, those were the two first names that appeared the most. (There were 11 Matthews, if you must know, and 9 Sara/Sarahs).

Sarah Spang graduated from Moraine Park twice!  Her determination to succeed and grow lead her to continuing her education with Ottawa University where she is pursuing a Master of Business Administration with a leadership development concentration.  She credits Moraine Park for helping her gain confidence and discover what she really wanted to do with her life.  Here’s Sarah’s story in her own words.
