The Waupun Fire Department has graciously allowed Moraine Park students in the entry-level firefighter and certified firefighter classes to use their training facility to practice various skill evaluations. These are vital skills and techniques to keep the fire ground safe and it provides students with the opportunity to practice what they’ve learned in the classroom.
We wish the certified firefighter candidates good luck at their upcoming state practical exams, and we extend a big thank you to the Waupun Fire Department and numerous other individuals who volunteer their time to make this training possible and safe for the students.
Moraine Park offers many exciting and innovative courses, one of those being the Mechanical Design Technology program.
What is Mechanical Design? It is a branch of mechanical engineering. Mechanical Designers typically work with Mechanical Engineers to develop products, machines, and tooling.
Their work includes detailing (engineering drawing creation), the creation of Computer Aided Designs (CAD) models and geometry, selection of purchase parts, and the selection of material used to manufacture parts.
Job titles vary but may include Mechanical Designer, Detailer, Tool Designer, Mold Designer, and Die Designer.
Mechanical Designers are in high demand, approximately half of the current second-year students have been working in the field for more than six months. And, several manufacturing companies are in contact with Moraine Park instructors on a recurring basis to find the Mechanical Designers that they need to employ.
Do you remember Hannah Koepp? She was featured in a foundation appeal video in 2016, as a scholarship recipient. You can view the video here.
Hannah’s family had been through some tough times after her mother was diagnosed with cancer, but she had big dreams for herself. The Moraine Park Foundation was able to help Hannah with a scholarship to help her start her schooling. At the time, Hannah was taking her general education courses with hopes of being accepted into the radiologic technologist program.
So, where is she today?
I caught up with the very excited, soon-to-be graduate at the Moraine Park Fond du Lac campus. After she passes her boards this July, she will officially be a radiologic technologist RT(r). She is eager to begin working in the field, to gain some more hands-on experience. She will be able to apply for jobs after graduation.
On May 19, Hannah will walk the Moraine Park stage and accept her diploma. But, she isn’t the only one in her family that is graduating.
“My sister Maddie is graduating from high school and my sister Zoe from middle school,” Koepp said. “It’s a milestone year for all of us.”
There is sure to be a fun Koepp family celebration this summer!
Hannah benefited from two scholarships through the Moraine Park Foundation. These scholarships are available thanks to contributions from generous community donors. And, students like Hannah are exactly who donors want to help, you will find her name on the most recent Dean’s list!
“I am so thankful,” said Koepp. “The scholarship money helped so much and allowed me to focus on my schooling.”
Congratulations Hannah on your upcoming graduation, we wish you success in your career!

Moraine Park Technical College trade apprentice student, Jacob Moody of Kraemer Brothers, earned the first-place gold award in the Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) National Craftsmen Championships. The event was held on Thursday, March 22, in Long Beach, CA.
“We are so proud of Jacob and the hard work and passion he has shown in his craft,” said John Mielke, president of ABC of Wisconsin. “He continues a tradition of Wisconsin apprentices performing extremely well on a national stage.”
Moody earned his spot at the national competition when he placed first at the ABC of Wisconsin Skill Competition in January. Moody competed against 200 other trade apprentices from across the country in a series of intense written and practical skill tests.
