On September 28, 2017 twelve students successfully completed Moraine Park Technical College’s Medical Assistant second one year long training cohort at the West Bend Campus.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Labor Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College Career Training (TAACCCT) ACT 4 Healthcare Grant program, the Medical Assistant program at the West Bend Campus is condensing the 35 credit technical diploma program into a one-year cohort model including a set M,W, F schedule with a Friday lab time and intrusive advising for targeted student support. “I hit a point in my life where I wanted a career change. I was focused on finding a job that would best suit my family time and yet something that I would really enjoy doing on a daily basis. I didn’t know where to turn so I made an appointment with an MPTC counselor. After reviewing my interest, she pointed me to the Medical Assistant program where I fell in love with it. With my kids being active in school and sports, I was able to take most of my classes at night or online at MPTC. The training and education itself was a short period of time.” Continue reading

Professionally, I am a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) with a bachelor’s degree in Health Information Administration and a master’s degree in Management Information Systems. I am also a certified health data analyst and a certified healthcare technology specialist with an emphasis in implementation management. I have been teaching for over 20 years at both the associate and baccalaureate degree level. I have over 30 years of health care experience in a variety of roles and settings, which include acute, long term, ambulatory and behavioral health care. I have experience assisting individuals and organizations achieve academic and organizational goals through coaching, project management and education. My occupational experience includes gathering, analyzing and defining business and functional requirements; designing/re-engineering processes, workflows and implementing technology solutions for healthcare systems. However, my true passion is teaching.
Personally, I am a proud Wisconsinite from Milwaukee. I love to read, cook and entertain friends and family. In recent years I have attempted gardening. The results vary from year to year but I enjoy the process. Continue reading

Due to the successful pilot of the Medical Assistant “cohort” model, the program will be offered again at the West Bend campus. Classes will begin for the program in June 2018 to allow the students a jump start on their education and to be able to complete the program in May of 2019.

I was a stay at home mom and when my kids went back to school I didn’t want to just work at a job I hated. So, I went back to school. I had a few different program changes and then I found the Health and Wellness program.

Recently, 26 West Bend High School students toured Moraine Park’s Fond du Lac campus and performed hands-on activities in a variety of health career fields. The student’s spent the morning with instructors and students in the Medical Assistant, Medical Laboratory Technician, Radiography, and Respiratory Therapy programs. The students learned about the careers and performed blood typing, vitals testing, urinalysis, suture removal, positioning for and taking X-rays, intubating a simulated patient, operating a ventilator, and pulse oximetry.
All of the students are enrolled in a dual credit, semester-long course titled, Careers in Allied Health. In the course, students are introduced to the multitude of health career options, customer service skills, and soft skills needed to succeed in the culture of healthcare.
