Moraine Park Technical College students have selected their 2019-2020 student government leadership representatives to serve the Student Senate, District Student Government (DSG), and Wisconsin Student Government (WSG).

Student Senate is a local campus group that is open to the entire student population. This group provides individualized attention to campus issues and activities. Each year, members have the opportunity to vote for their peers to represent the College in the leadership opportunities within the Student Senate, as well as the DSG and WSG.

The DSG provides a forum to share opinions on college issues and offers opportunities to get involved in college life. Students work with each other, plan student development opportunities, act as liaisons amongst the student body, and interact with faculty and the administration in the promotion of student rights. The WSG consists of student representatives from all 16 Wisconsin Technical Colleges. Their mission is to represent, promote, advocate and protect the interests of the technical colleges and their students establish positive relationships with state legislators in support of the needs and interests of WTCS students and colleges, communicate relevant information to legislators at the state level, and garner support for the WTCS.

The individuals selected to represent the Moraine Park student government leadership roles for Student Senate are Abby Muenchow of Horicon, Beaver Dam president; Koy Straks of North Fond du Lac, Beaver Dam vice president; Caitlin Pieper of Burnett, Beaver Dam secretary; Izzy Clark of Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac president; Mollea Greylord of Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac vice president; Maurice Artiles of Campbellsport, Fond du Lac secretary; Cortland Henning, Fond du Lac community manager; Anthony Fiore of Waupun, West Bend president; Lauryn Slade of Hartford, West Bend vice president; and  Brisa Vasquez of Allenton, West Bend secretary.

Moraine Park is very proud to announce our 2018-19 Newman Civic Fellow, Queenie Weesen!

Queenie says, “Becoming a Nurse, I want to give elderly and hospice patients, quality care, kindness and compassion. I teach my children, education and helping your community is essential for success. As a child, I sometimes escaped to the roof of my grandma’s house, watching the airport planes flying overheard and told myself, ‘One day I will fly! In America you can fly!’”

Beaver Dam Student Senate ends year making a difference

Even amidst year-end projects, assignments and final exams, students found time to volunteer for three community service projects.

Over the course of three days, more than 35 students participated in Student Senate’s sponsored Habitat for Humanity build days. On May 2, members of the Electrical Power Distribution Club worked on silt fencing and stone veneering for an almost-finished house in Juneau. On May 10, different members of the same club painted a shed and backyard fences for a home in Beaver Dam.  And the day before, May 9, members from the Student Nurses Association, Donut Club, Beaver Dam Student Senate, and Welding club painted fences for a home in Beaver Dam.

A hypnotist, hilarity and chipmunks, oh my

students dance at mptc chris jones performance

You’re getting sleeeeepy. Very, very sleepy.

You’re not? Hmmm … well, I guess we’ll leave that to the pros, like hypnotist Chris Jones. He’s appeared on America’s Got Talent, and visited our campuses this week at Moraine Park to give several hilarious performances sponsored by our Student Senate groups. A large outpouring of faculty, staff and students turned out to witness the energetic, interactive fun.

How much fun? Well, take a look at the silliness we enjoyed in the gallery below. And while looking at the increasing mix of shock, laughter and disbelief on everyone’s faces, we dare you not to smile!

Keep scrolling now. You’re feeling smiley already, aren’t you? Very, very smiley!

Record-breaking donations pour in for Troops

christmas-in-a-shoebox being filled by volunteers

Well, that went well!

With the holiday season approaching, Moraine Park wanted to give back and show support for the men and women who are serving our country overseas.

In order to make their time a little more enjoyable away from home this holiday season, students and staff from Moraine Park’s Beaver Dam campus conducted a “Christmas in a Shoebox” drive (all donations – deodorant, eye drops, candy, snacks, books, movies, etc. – had to be small enough to fit inside a shoebox). The drive was organized by the Beaver Dam Student Senate, and roughly 100 different students helped at various points of the project.

In previous years, our record for overall donations was 35 boxes. This year, we aimed higher – hoping to gather enough for 50 boxes of donated items.

Turns out, we ended up with
