Beware of student loan debt relief offers and credit repair “deals”

Kim DeMaa in Financial Aid

If you’re among the millions of current or former students with debt, you’ve probably been tempted to click on an ad that says, “Obama Wants to Forgive Your Student Loans!” or “Erase Default Statuses in 4 – 6 Weeks!” or some equally enticing student loan debt relief offer … available only if you click or call NOW!

It’s tempting to just say: Don’t do it. Walk away. Call your loan servicer instead. But there’s more you should know. Continue reading

Analyzing the Amazon Echo

Joe - IT instructor

If you take great interest in new technologies, I would encourage you to explore the IT-Tech Support program at MPTC.  I am one of the instructors, and try to teach our students about new technology as early as possible. This helps them stay ahead of the game and be more prepared when they graduate. It also helps me as an IT instructor stay current.

One of the new devices I’ve incorporated into my classroom, and my home, is the Amazon Echo.  This wonderful little device has had a huge impact in both my classes and the way we do things at home. Continue reading

Tutor or not tutee? That is the question …

Two female students

The fear of math is something many of us have experienced more than once in our lifetimes, but for Moraine Park Technical College student Nichole Cochenet of West Bend, that fear was eased thanks to her Moraine Park tutor.

“I gained a better understanding of math and confidence in the classroom, and some of my fear of math disappeared,” said Cochenet. “I also gained a friend.”

The one-on-one peer tutoring services offered at Moraine Park have benefited numerous students throughout the years but is still a valuable College resource often overlooked by students, according to Michelle Duran, tutoring services specialist at the College. Continue reading
